“Endurance” (2024)

60x20 cm | 23 5/8 × 7 7/8 inches | acrylic on canvas

This painting is inspired by my own encounters with muskox in the Canadian Arctic, where I observed them both on the ground and from the air while conducting wildlife surveys. Seeing these animals in their natural environment left a lasting impression on me—they are formidable, ancient-looking creatures, perfectly adapted to survive some of the harshest conditions on Earth. What struck me most was their quiet strength and resilience, the way they endure wind and cold. In this piece, my vision was to capture a muskox standing firm in a snowstorm, unmoved and stoic as the snow flakes swirl around it. I wanted the painting to reflect not only the severity of the Arctic environment, but also the dignity of an animal that truly belongs there.
